Advantages of Open Source Concept

“Programmer writes their code in a manner which is friendly for other programmers to modify and redistribute and use publicly”.

We can take advantage of these public resources and available software’s or “programmer products” like Linux, Apache, and SendMail as they become more widely used or easier to use.

Open source will force some software products companies to drop their prices or drop out of commercial viability, but other products and companies will appear. The business of selling software products will live on, along with free and open source programs. This is most likely how it will be, and it is how it should be.

Open-source software is cheaper than proprietary software for the selected areas of application. Open source as infrastructure software entails substantially lower costs. Open source software’s mostly are competitive for proprietary software’s.

Acceptance of open source software is increasing in both the public and private sector. The Office of Government Commerce report states that it is a viable and credible alternative to proprietary software for infrastructure and for most desktop users.

Because open-source software is now increasingly used for commercial purposes, because it is characterized by independence from software producers.

Open-source software offers a number of possible advantages over proprietary software. These advantages will be outlined in followinf chapters.
